Zora Neale Hurston

Biography

Probably one of the most prominent contributors towards the Harlem Renaissance, she published her masterpiece book, Their Eye Were Viewing God, in 1937. Also a significant folklorist, she was granted a Guggenheim Fellowship to handle anthropological study in Haiti and Jamaica. She went to Howard University through the early 1920s. Ten years later on, she received a qualification in anthropology from Barnard University and released the folklore-heavy function, Mules and Males. She relocated to Harlem within the 1920s and was a good friend of Langston Hughes. Nevertheless, the two later on had a falling out in clumps over their co-written function, Mule Bone tissue. She and her seven siblings had been the Alabama-born kids of the Baptist minister. She experienced two brief relationships: to jazz musician Herbert Sheen (1927-1931) also to Albert Cost (1939). Her function was nearly overlooked until it had been re-introduced to the general public by writer Alice Walker.
