Canadian novelist whose 1982 book Shoeless Joe was modified in to the film Field of Dreams in 1989. He grew up inside a homestead near Alberta and was home-schooled by his mom until he was ten. In 1997 he was struck by an automobile and experienced a debilitating mind injury which avoided him from posting another book for 14 years. His parents, Matthew and Olive, had been both Irish American. Kevin Costner starred in the film version of his publication Shoeless Joe.
