A Uk poet, academic, and literary critic, he’s perhaps most widely known for Seven Types of Ambiguity, published in 1930. He was a scholarship or grant pupil at Magdalene University, Cambridge until allegations of intimate relations with a woman finished his university profession. He trained in China, Japan, america, and Britain. He was the kid of Laura Mickelthwait Empson and Arthur Reginald Empson. He became close friends with George Orwell in 1941, while both guys were doing work for the international broadcasts department from the BBC.
