German skier and three-time Olympic Champ, winning yellow metal in 1972, 1976, and in 1980 in the Lake Placid Video games. He earned the 1971 FIS Junior Globe Skiing Championships at age 19. He was the very first male athlete to earn three consecutive Winter season Olympic precious metal medals within the same event: 1972, 1976, and 1980. He wedded Evi Wehling in 1981. He got gold within the 1980 Olympics where acceleration skater Eric Heiden earned five yellow metal medals.
