Tony Hart

Biography

Presenter of several British children’s tv shows, often together with his animated friend Morph. He offered in WWII using the English Indian Army with war’s end made a decision to try a profession in performing. He produced the logo design for and occasionally co-presented this program Blue Peter in the 1950s. He previously a child and two grandchildren along with his wife of over fifty years, Jean Skingle. Gethin Jones was a presenter for the Blue Peter children’s display, where Hart also occasionally appeared.

1At one point early in his career, before he was hired by the BBC, he drew murals on restaurant walls in exchange for food.
2He wanted to join the RAF during WWII, but was rejected because of slightly deficient vision. He joined the Gurkhas instead.
3Created the original Blue Peter badge.
4He appeared in up to three TV series every year for the next 50 years up to 1994 with 'Hartbeat'.
5BBC awarded him a contract to appear as an illustrator on Saturday Special.
6His break in television was in 1952, after he met a BBC producer.
7Suffered two strokes which left him unable to use his hands. He described the loss of his ability to draw as the greatest challenge in his life. He said: "Not being able to draw is the greatest cross that I have to bear, for it has been my lifetime passion.".
