Tragically, this sixteen-year-old girl became a victim of homicide as a result of her temporary guardian, Gertrude Baniszewski, and two of Baniszewski’s children (along with two neighborhood boys who assisted in the killing). The adding elements in her loss of life were surprise, malnutrition from intentional hunger, and a distressing brain damage. Before she was murdered, Likens was tortured and starved by Baniszewski on several occasions. The misuse started when Likens’ dad was late on the babysitting payment to Baniszewski. A prosecutor in Baniszewski’s murder trial known as the loss of life of Sylvia Likens the most severe violent criminal offense in Indiana’s background. She and her siblings Diana, Danny, Jenny, and Benny had been given birth to in Lebanon, Indiana, to Betty Grimes Likens and Lester Cecil Likens. The children’s parents had been unhappily married, touring carnival workers; because of this, Sylvia Likens and her siblings had been often looked after by neighbours and close friends. She was portrayed by celebrity Ellen Web page in the 2007 film An American Criminal offense.
