Well-known for his work in both Telugu and Tamil films, he was a five-time recipient of the Rashtrapati Award, along with the 1963 winner of the Indonesian Film Event Best Acting professional Award for his work in Nartanasala. After graduating from Hindu University, he started his acting profession as the celebrity from the film Varoodhini. Also an acclaimed movie director, he received the Nandi Honor for Greatest Feature Film for both Chadarangam (1967) and Bandhavyalu (1968). Created Samarla Venkata Ranga Rao Naidu, he was raised in India’s Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu claims as the kid of Lakshmi Narasayamma and Samarla Koteswara Rao. He and his wife Leelavati later on became parents to some son called Koteswara Rao and daughters called Prameela and Vijaya. He and Chiranjeevi are both well-known Indian film stars.
