Stephane Mallarme

French symbolist poet whose best-known functions include L’apres-midi d’un faune and Les Mots anglais. He was created in Paris and resided an impoverished lifetime as an British instructor. His poetry motivated composer Claude Debussy’s 1894 function “Prelude a l’apres-midi d’un faune.” He wed Maria Christina Gerhard in 1863 and acquired a daughter called Stephanie. He famously arranged literary salons in Paris which were went to by W.B. Yeats and various other prominent poets.
