British, World Battle II-era poet who became known for The Cruel Solstice as well as the Iron Laurel. Both functions received the exclusive Hawthornden Reward. He was students at Queen’s University, Oxford until 1942, when he became a member of the British Military. He passed away in fight in Tunisia in 1943, only a month timid of his twenty-first birthday. He fell deeply in love with Milein Cosman, a German designer, but she by no means came back his affections. He and writer Graham Greene had been both recipients from the Hawthornden Reward in the first 1940s.
