Latvian defender who helped anchor the trunk type of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1990s; earned a Stanley Glass Championship using the group in 1996. He started his professional profession in the Soviet Group with Dynamo Riga in 1990; a season afterwards, he was chosen using the 30th general choose in the 1991 NHL Draft with the San Jose Sharks. He established several franchise information during his period using the Avalanche, including most one period goals (23) and factors (68) with a defenseman aswell because so many all-time playoff goals (18) and factors (67) with a defenseman. He previously two sons, Roberts and Christopher, along with his previous wife Sandra, whom he divorced this year 2010. He was a longtime teammate of group captain and head Joe Sakic for the Avalanche.
