Hall of Popularity catcher who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1948 to 1957; he was an 8-period All-Star, 3-period National Little league MVP, and helped business lead the Dodgers to a global Series Tournament in 1955. He lowered out of college at 16 to try out in the Negro Little league. His baseball profession was tragically lower short whenever a 1958 car crash left him partly paralyzed. Was wedded 3 x, to Bernice Ray, Ruthe Willis, and Roxie Doles, and acquired five children on the way. Along with Jackie Robinson, he was among the initial dark players to break the football color line.
