Known for stating, ‘Less can be a bore,’ a take-off on Ludwig Mies truck der Rohe’s ‘Much less is even more,’ a declaration with which he adamantly disagreed. He graduated summa cum laude from Princeton College or university in 1947 and attained his M.F.A. in 1950. He spent 2 yrs in European countries after earning the American Academy in Rome’s Rome Award Fellowship in 1954. He received the Pritzker Award in 1991 and requested that his wife and collaborator, Denise Scott Dark brown, be incorporated with him, however the Pritzker Award jury eventually refused.
