American botanist who spent his career learning plants in Pakistan. In his profession he gathered over 30,000 vegetable specimens from India, Kashmir, Iran, along with other middle eastern countries. He acquired his Ph.D. from Columbia College or university in 1916. At age 91 he had written a type the memoir, Flora of Pakistan: Background and Exploration of Vegetation in Pakistan and Adjoining Areas. He wedded Isabelle Caroline Darrow, who he previously two daughters with, in 1953. He was a botanist like Gregor Mendel.
