Pietro Metastasio

Italian poet remembered for his libretti for works of eighteenth-century opera seria. His popular libretto, Adriano in Siria, was arranged to music by such renowned composers as Bach, Cherubini, Pergolesi, and Caldara. He spent many a content childhood hour providing impromptu verse shows before huge crowds. He published libretti for operas, oratorios, cantatas, along with other musical functions. He was the final child of Francesca Galasti and Felice Trapassi. He and Leonardo da Vinci had been both popular Italians.
