He especially raced in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series from 1956-1969, where he won 9 races. He started his profession in the 1940s being a motorbike racer in the A.M.A. Grand Country wide Tournament. He was inducted in to the Motorsports Hall of Popularity of America, as well as the AMA Hall of Popularity. He was created in Parkersburg, Western world Virginia. He raced in six Indy 500 races, with the ultimate one to arrive 1963, where Parnelli Jones was the champion.
