Biography

Director from the Davy Crockett sections from your Disney Television series Disneyland in the 1950’s. He also aimed Charlie Chan and Mr. Moto secret movies in the 1930’s and ’40’s. He was a newspapers reporter and relocated to NY in wish of getting better assignments. One of is own first performing credits is at the 1931 film It Pays off to market. He was wedded to celebrity Claudette Colbert from 1928 to 1935. In 1929, he performed on Broadway in the George S. Kaufman play June Moon.

1When Foster went from acting to directing in the 30s, his salary dipped from [email protected] to $350.
2Acted on Broadway from 1926, in films from 1929. Turned director for the 20th Century Fox B-unit in 1936, working on several of the 'Mr.Moto' films. Left Fox in 1941. Briefly with RKO, directing the stylish Orson Welles thriller Journey Into Fear (1943). Free-lanced in Mexico during the mid-1940's, then returned to RKO in 1948. Joined Columbia, 1949-50, then with MGM, 1952. Directed three notable films: a classic western, Rachel and the Stranger (1948), the cult film noir Kiss the Blood Off My Hands (1948), and the musical Sombrero (1953). Primarily worked in television after 1957. Also noted as playwright and screenwriter.
