Myra Melford

Acclaimed jazz artist and composer who documented a lot more than 20 albums and started playing the harmonium past due in her career. She began performing in NEW YORK in the mid-eighties where she became a mainstay, collaborating with fellow performers like Dave Douglas, Cuong Vu, Marty Ehrlich, and Chris Rate. She became a member of a leaderless trio using the Art Outfit of Chicago’s Joseph Jarman and AACM violinist Leroy Jenkins known as Equal Curiosity. Her works combined her hometown Chicago blues seems with Eastern seems and avant-garde affects. She and Junior Mance had been both indigenous Chicagoans who became much loved jazz pianists.
