Biography

Legendary American standup comedian who was simply a pioneer from the ‘Chitlin’ Circuit’ of African-American vaudeville. Whoopi Goldberg created and narrated a documentary about her lifestyle for HBO in 2013. She thought we would turn into a performer over engaged and getting married as a teenager. After becoming effective within the African-American humor circuit she became recognized to a wider white market when she performed Carnegie Hall in 1962, and produced multiple appearances over the The Smothers Brothers Humor Hour, which, at one stage, was the #1 present on tv. Her cover edition of “Abraham, Martin and John” strike #35 over the Sizzling hot 100 in 1969, producing her, at age group 75, the oldest per on also to truly have a US Best 40 strike. She acquired six kids and 19 siblings. She arrived being a lesbian at the same time when it had been very rare for the performer to take action. Her humor influenced many effective performers, including Bing Crosby.
