Miller Huggins


Hall of Popularity MLB second baseman who played for the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals between 1904 and 1916; gained 3 Globe Series Championships as supervisor of the brand new York Yankees from 1918 to 1929. He performed under the artificial name ‘Proctor’ to protect his amateur position therefore that his dad wouldn’t understand he performed in the MLB. He went into football while studying laws and managing the institution baseball team on the School of Cincinnati. He was created and elevated in Cincinnati, Ohio. William Howard Taft, one of is own professors at Cincinatti, inspired him to find yourself in baseball.

1Inducted into the University of Cincinnati Athletics Hall of Fame in 1977.
2Managed the Cardinals (1913-1917), and New York Yankees (1918-1929). Died 5 days after stepping down as the Yankees' manager.
3Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1964.
4Graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Law. One of his professors, William Howard Taft, advised him to play baseball after Huggins realized that he could make more money playing baseball than practicing law. Although Huggins was admitted to the bar, he never did practice law.
5Played for the Cincinnati Reds (1904-1909), and the St. Louis Cardinals (1910-1916).
6The first plaque placed in Yankee Stadium's Memorial Park was dedicated to Huggins on 30 May 1932.
