Melvil Dewey

American librarian and educator who especially invented the Dewey Decimal system of library classification. He went to Amherst University, where he belonged to Delta Kappa Epsilon, and from where he gained a bachelor’s level in 1874 and a master’s level in 1877. His classification program utilized of three-digit Arabic numerals for primary classes, with decimals as expansions for greater detail. He previously a child, Godfrey, along with his 1st wife, Annie Godfrey. Country wide Medal of Technology champion Carl Woese also went to Amherst College.
