Mary MacKillop


Australian nun who founded the Sisters of St. Joseph from the Sacred Center, which established several academic institutions throughout Australia, in 1866. She began work at age 14 being a clerk within a stationery shop in Melbourne to greatly help support her family members. She actually is the initial Australian to become acknowledged by the Catholic Cathedral being a saint. Her sibling Donald was a Jesuit priest who proved helpful among the Aborigines in the North element of Austrailia. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI this year 2010.
