Martin Puryear

African-American sculptor who functions in media including wood, natural stone, tar, and wire. He produced the sculptures Sanctuary and Container and Pole. He received a B.A. through the Catholic College or university of America and was a Peacefulness Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone. His function is considered a combined mix of minimalism and traditional crafts. He wedded Jeanne Puryear. He and Adam Wilcox both received Guggenheim Fellowships.
