New York-born entrepreneur and investor who helped establish the Central Pacific Railroad in 1861. He was also a significant shape in the California Yellow metal Hurry, founding New Britain Mining and Trading Business. He started a company called the brand new Britain Mining and Trading Business during the many years of the California Yellow metal Rush. He found its way to California in 1849 and set up a supermarket in Sacramento in the next year. He became a member of the Republican Party in California and became known for his abolitionist sentiments. He wedded his cousin, Mary Frances Sherwood, in Sept of 1854. Hopkins, Leland Stanford, Collis Huntington, and Charles Crocker had been the four guys who founded and funded the Central Pacific Railroad.
