Mark Antokolski

Russian-Jewish sculptor known for the emotional complexity of his traditional images. He sculpted Mephistopheles, completed in 1884. He researched in the Imperial Academy of Arts at St. Petersburg. His sculpture, Ivan the Terrible, produced a big impression on connoisseurs of artwork and was controversial. He wedded Jelena Antokolski in 1872. He and Anna Golubkina are both sculptors from Russia.
