The first woman to swim across Lake Ontario, also afterwards crossed The English Channel as well as the Strait of Juan de Fuca. She started taking going swimming lessons in an area pool at age group 9, and by 1947 started contending in long-distance going swimming occasions. She was simply 16 years of age when she finished her record-setting 32-mile swim from Youngstown, NY, across Lake Ontario to Toronto. She got four kids with her hubby Joe Di Lascio. She wasn’t the initial woman over the English Route – that honor belonged to Gertrude Ederle in 1926 – but she was the youngest.
