Lydia Cabrera

Cuban author, poet, Afro-Cuban anthropologist and activist who wrote the 1954 work El Monte. She transferred to Paris in 1927 and resided there for eleven years while learning art. She composed several functions on the secretive Abakua sect, an Afro-Cuban spiritual group. She was among eight children delivered to a rich, socially prominent Havana family members. She still left her native nation pursuing Fidel Castro’s Cuban trend and resided in Spain and Florida.
