Lionel Grigson


Jazz musician, composer, and instructor who have also mastered the cornet and trumpet. He was known for his ardent support of youthful jazz music artists. He was the co-leader from the Cambridge College or university Jazz Band through the early 1960s. He was Teacher of Tranquility and Improvisation from 1983 until 1993 at Guildhall College of Music in London. He was the boy of critic and poet Geoffrey Grigson whose initial wife was Margaret Busby, co-founder of submitting company Allison & Busby. He trained many upcoming notables while at Guildhall, including saxophonist Courtney Pine.
