Operatic baritone who especially sang the lead role in Verdi’s acclaimed opera, Rigoletto. He sang in the air Town Music Hall chorus through the mid-1930s and produced his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1938. He passed away at age forty-eight from a cerebral hemorrhage while on stage throughout a 1960 functionality of La Forza del Destino. He was created in NY to Russian immigrant parents from the Jewish beliefs. He later changed into the Catholic beliefs of his wife Agatha. He and soprano Leontyne Cost performed together for the recording from the Verdi opera Il Trovatore.
