Known as the “Dean of American church music.” He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1946 for “Canticle of sunlight,” a cantata. He analyzed music and structure using the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and was the 1st composer to get the Rome Reward. He departed from past composers who attempted to imitate the legends of Central European countries and led a era of contemporaries in developing a distinctly American audio. His family members was surviving in Grand Rapids, Michigan, when he was created. He trained Maylon Merrill, who became the music movie director for the fantastic radio comedian Jack port Benny.
