Lennie Hayton

Musical director for MGM during its fantastic age of movie musicals. His brand was putting on a captain’s head wear when he performed. He was a pianist in a number of NY jazz groups, dealing with Joe Venuti, Crimson Nichols, Bix Beiderbecke, and Frankie Trumbauer. He was nominated for six Academy Honours: for ‘The Harvey Young ladies’ from 1946 and ‘The Pirate’ from 1948, both starring Judy Garland, ‘On the City’ from 1950, that he gained the Academy Prize, ‘Singin’ within the Rainfall’ from 1952, ‘Superstar!’ from 1968, and ‘Hello, Dolly!’ from 1969, that he won his second Oscar. He wedded famous vocalist and celebrity Lena Horne in 1947. She accepted years after his loss of life to having wedded him to progress her profession, but stated that she created a like for him. He organized the George Harrison melody “Something,” for Frank Sinatra in 1970, although Sinatra eventually opted to employ a Nelson Riddle edition of it.
