Guitarist and songwriter who also co-founded the 1970s progressive rock-band Kansas, the group known for tunes like “Dirt in the Blowing wind.” He designed his own acoustic guitar out of an inexpensive Stella model, a mike, and an amp. He visited Washburn University, but didn’t finish his research. He’s an outspoken traditional, having made an appearance on Sean Hannity’s radio system. His dad, Allen Leroy, was an commercial engineer. Phil Ehart was his bandmate in Kansas.
