Biography

A Missouri-born actress, singer and author, she actually is most widely known for creating the beloved Eloise children’s series. She also offered as musical arranger for The Ziegfeld Follies as well as the Harvey Ladies and performed with several backup performers in the 1930s around the Chesterfield Radio System. She worked well in her more youthful years like a vocalist and choral movie director for radio applications like the Bing Crosby-Woodbury Display. In 1943, she became a vocal arranger for MGM. She performed the part of style editor Maggie Prescott in the film musical, Crazy Encounter. She was wedded for just two years to jazz trombonist, Jack port Jenney. In 1942, she wed her second spouse, William Spier, whom she divorced five years later on. She worked like a vocal trainer and musical arranger for Judy Garland and additional prominent performers. Garland’s child, Liza Minnelli, was Thompson’s goddaughter as well as the inspiration on her behalf Eloise books.
