Jussi Bjorling

Twentieth-century Swedish opera singer. He performed several tenor tasks at such world-famous locations as the Metropolitan Opera (NY), La Scala (Milan), as well as the Royal Opera Home (London). He produced his operatic debut inside a 1930 Royal Swedish Opera creation of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. Through the 1940s and 1950s, he sang in various Metropolitan Opera productions, including Aida, Rigoletto, and Madama Butterfly. His dad, David Bjorling, was also a gifted vocalist. Knowing his son’s vocal skill, the elder Bjorling organized for his four-year-old boy to sing using the family’s all-male quartet. Within the last yr of his existence, he performed with fellow opera vocalist Leontyne Price inside a recording from the Verdi Requiem.
