Biography

American singer and dancer who performed in Broadway productions of Contact Me personally Mister, The Gay Existence, and Barefoot in the Recreation area. He also made an appearance with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra in the 1949 film Out. He made an appearance in such MGM musical movies as Easter Parade and Consider Me Out to the PASTIME. He famously performed the part of Bibinski in the 1957 film Silk Stockings. He wedded Bonnie Brandon in 1962. He famously sang “NY, NY” with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra in Out.

1He co-starred with Peter Sellers in George Tabori's play "Brouhaha" in London's West End in the late 1950s. He frequently fell out with Sellers as the latter would often improvise new lines and bits of business during a performance, claiming that sticking to the play's text bored him.
2Became a Broadway star after starring in the musical "Call Me Mister" in 1946.
3Popular song-and-dance man and comedian at Catskill resorts.
4Best remembered as one of the trio of sailors - Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra were his shipmates - enjoying 24 hours' holiday in Manhattan, in MGM's 1949 masterpiece musical, On the Town (1949).
