Professor who all joined the Union Military through the Civil Battle and received the Medal of Honor for his bravery in Gettysburg. He graduated from Bowdoin University, where he afterwards taught. He offered for four years as the Republican Governor of Maine. His youthful sibling, Thomas, was also an official within a Maine regiment from the Union Military. During his university teaching years, he produced the acquaintance of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the writer of Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
