American poet and author known for Property of Amnesia, The Feast of most Saints, as well as other works. Also a university professor, he trained creative composing at North Carolina’s Appalachian Condition School. He studied on the School of Pittsburgh and, upon graduation, started doing work for the NEW YORK prison provider branch of the Volunteers OPERATING To America (VISTA) plan. He proved helpful for the NEW YORK Visiting Artist Plan in the 1980s. He was raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. He wedded Joan Bathanti, with whom he previously two kids. In 2012 he became the Poet Laureate of NEW YORK, a posture that poet Fred Chappell acquired previously held.
