Jose Rodrigues

Realist painter who received a precious metal medal from Queen Dona Maria II in the triennial exhibition in 1849. He was fascinated with painting traditions, but he battled to split up realism from sentimentalism. He analyzed in the Academy of Good Arts with such long term notables as João Pedro Monteiro (Monteirinho), Francisco Augusto Metrass, Tomás da Anunciação, Joaquim Pedro de Sousa, and António José Patrício. His most well-known work may be the painting “O Pobre Rabequista” from 1855. He was raised with five brothers. He wedded in 1863 and experienced three kids. He and Edward Hopper had been both realist painters.
