Jose Iturbi

Musician and performer known for showing up in Anchors Aweigh, Hundreds Cheer, and many additional 1940s MGM musicals. He was Spanish violinist Manuel Quiroga’s accompanist on worldwide trips from 1911 until 1937. His memory space was honored with the José Iturbi Basis and two music contests, the Valencia International Piano Competition Reward Iturbi as well as the José Iturbi International Music Competition. He and María Giner de los Santos had been wedded in 1916. That they had a child, also called María. His wife exceeded in 1928. He was referenced within the bestselling book Portnoy’s Problem by Philip Roth when a youthful pianist is usually dubbed José Iturbi the next.
