Astronomer who have patented equipment for telescopes. He received the Elliott Cresson Medal in 1910 and from 1901 to 1904, he was performing chancellor from the Traditional western School of Pennsylvania, today referred to as the School of Pittsburgh. He was raised superstar gazing as an adolescent and he utilized to look over telescopes along with his grandfather. A couple of craters on both moon and on mars that are called in his honor. He wedded Phoebe Stewart, a Weekend school instructor, in 1862. He was created in the same calendar year as Irish astronomer Robert Stawell Ball.
