John Agard

Guyanese poet, children’s author, playwright, and 2012 recipient of the Queen’s Silver Medal for Poetry. His many literary works consist of Capture Me With Plants, Laughter can be an Egg, and Brer Rabbit: THE FANTASTIC Tug-o-War. He was raised in English Guiana and spent many content childhood afternoons hearing cricket commentary on the air. He was the 2008 Poet-in-Residence in the Country wide Maritime Museum in London. He and his partner Elegance Nichols relocated to Britain in 1977. He and fellow poet Carol Ann Duffy judged a 2011 nationwide college poetry competition.
