Protege of Earl Hines and a staple of Chicago’s jazz picture through the 1920s. He analyzed in the Chicago Conservatory. He started documenting in 1927 with McKenzie and Condon’s Chicagoans. He was a normal in the Famous Door and used permanent home in San Francisco’s Golf club Hangover. He was created the ninth kid of Irish immigrant parents and began monitoring traditional piano when he was 12. He regularly followed Bing Crosby through the entire 1930s.
