Biography

Traditional music composer who was simply awarded the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in Music on her behalf Violin Concerto. She also received a Grammy Honor in ’09 2009 for Greatest Contemporary Composition on her behalf Percussion Concerto. She was a self-taught flautist who performed in concert music group in senior high school, but experienced minimal contact with traditional music until university. She majored in flute overall performance at Bowling Green Condition University. She utilized Charles Frazier’s “Chilly Mountain” because the basis for an opera which was commissioned by Santa Fe Opera and Opera Philadelphia. Her family members was surviving in Brooklyn when she was created, but they quickly relocated to Atlanta where she spent the very first a decade of her existence. Then they relocated to Tennessee. She fulfilled her partner Cheryl Lawson in senior high school. She analyzed structure under George Crumb in the University of Pa.
