Composer and musician known for his function in the folk genre. He used the Putnam Region Band along with Kitty Mother as well as the All Night Information Boys. He started his career within the Greenwich Town music scene from the 1960s. He regularly collaborated with vocalist and songwriter David Bromberg. He was created in NEW YORK to some Jewish category of Eastern Western descent. He wedded fellow folk musician Molly Mason in 1991. He became well-known for “Ashokan Farewell,” a melancholy music that he made up because the theme music for Ken Burns up’ 1990 Civil Battle documentary.
