American poet, educational, and author who’s best known on her behalf 1964 work Charley Smith’s Gal. Her various other literary works add a Transformation of Sky, Nineteen Mil Elephants, and Gorgeous Lofty People. She graduated from both School of Chicago and Columbia School. Her Pulitzer-Prize-nominated memoir, Charley Smith’s Gal, was prohibited in her hometown of Worcester, NY because it shown her minister father’s extramarital affairs. She wed Merle Bevington in 1928. She and her hubby elevated two sons and both trained in Duke University’s British department. She composed her master’s thesis on the task of Henry David Thoreau.
