Heinrich Neuhaus

Self-taught musician who wrote the 1958 pedagogic publication The Artwork of Piano Taking part in, which influenced generations of pianists. His concert profession was hindered by short-term paralysis, resulting in his many pedagogical efforts. He was imprisoned in 1941 like a German spy, but premiered eight weeks later on when Dmitri Shostakovich and Emil Gilels exerted their impact on Moscow. His uncle was composer Felix Blumenfeld and his second cousin was pianist Karol Szymanowski, both of whom affected his musicality in serious methods. He and Doctor Zhivago writer Boris Pasternak had been lifelong friends.
