Hank Worden

Biography

He toured the united states like a rodeo rider before performing the Lone Ranger and showing up in Westerns. He made an appearance with John Wayne in Accurate Grit, The Queries, as well as the Alamo. He broke his throat by falling from a equine sometime in his 20s, but continuing to ride, declaring he just got a sore throat. He played little parts in twelve of John Ford’s traditional westerns, and made an appearance 17 movies with John Wayne. He was created in Rolfe, Iowa, and elevated on the cattle ranch in Montana. He and Tex Ritter had been both spotted with a skill scout at a rodeo in Madison Square Backyard, and were provided a job in the Broadway creation of Green Grow the Lilacs.

#Fact
1Was part of a group of actors, often referred to as "The John Wayne Stock Company," that John Wayne regularly used in his films.
2Competed on the University of Nevada track team in 1926.
3Appeared in 17 movies with John Wayne.
4Worked on several Tex Ritter Westerns billed as Heber Snow because the producer felt that a Mormon-like name such as Heber Snow would help the films do better business in heavily-Mormon areas such as Utah.
5Often erroneously credited as the coach/manager/cornerman in the boxing flashback in The Quiet Man (1952), but according to Worden himself it is actually another actor of vaguely similar appearance.
