Giambattista Marino

Italian poet known for his luxurious wordplay as well as for his 1623 epic poem “L’Adone.” His various other notable works consist of La Lira and Le Rime. He was the kid of the Naples lawyer; nevertheless, he defied his father’s desire that he, as well, pursue a legal profession. He was the thing of the attempted assassination by literary rival Gaspare Murtola. His personal lifestyle is something of the mystery. There have been rumours that he was a homosexual; nevertheless, he was imprisoned for assisting the Naples mayor’s little girl in aborting a kid that could or might not have already been his. He, like Pietro Metastasio, was an Italian poet.
