Gerda Lundequist

Swedish stage actress who appeared in various plays by dramatists Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg. Her additional stage credits consist of functions in William Shakespeare’s Ruler Lear and Friedrich Schiller’s Mary Stuart. She became popular after playing the part of Gertrude within an 1891 creation of Hamlet. She was an outspoken supporter of women’s equality. Her granddaughter, Sonja Linwood, experienced a career like a musician. She created and directed Anna Christie, a play by Eugene O’Neill.
