George Williams


Business owner best remembered for founding the YMCA in 1844. He worked well inside a draper’s store in London where in fact the working circumstances for teenagers horrified him. He was an extremely devout Christian and founded the YMCA as a location where males could head to not really sin. In 1853, he wedded Helen Jane Maunder Hitchcock. He previously one child, Christopher. He was knighted by Queen Victoria, the great-great-grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II.
