10-period All-Star third baseman who was simply inducted in to the Football Hall of Popularity in 1983. He starred for Arkansas Condition University and finally had the football stadium there called after him. He became well-known as the longtime play-by-play announcer for the Detroit Tigers. He was wedded to his wife Charlene for 50 years and jointly, that they had a girl, Terrie, and a boy, George Jr. He earned the American Group batting name in 1949 over Hall of Popularity outfielder Ted Williams.
